Improve your written English

with Mary Morel

This course is suitable for non-native English speakers.

There is lots of free stuff on the internet, but what makes this course different is the simple clear explanations. You learn by watching videos and doing quizzes. You also receive information sheets for future reference.

This is not a comprehensive grammar course. Instead it covers the areas that many people struggle with, such as what verb tense or preposition to use in a sentence.

What you’ll learn

  • Verbs

The present, past and future tenses are made up of four aspects: simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous. You’ll learn when to use each aspect so your writing flows well.

  • Prepositions

Many native English speakers can often not tell you why they use certain prepositions. For example, what’s the difference between ‘at the station’ and ‘in the station’? This course explains such differences.

  • And more

You’ll also learn about determiners (a, an and the), where adverbs go in a sentence and receive some tips on subject-verb agreement (e.g. ‘staff’ can take a singular or plural verb depending on the meaning).

Write with confidence

Your writing will flow better when you understand basic grammar

Mary Morel

Your instructor

My aim in developing this course is to help you understand some aspects of grammar that native English speakers take for granted. The more you know, the more confident your writing will be.

I studied grammar at university, but most of my knowledge has come from teaching business writing for several years and answering people’s grammar questions in my monthly e-newsletter.

Although this course is self-paced, you are welcome to email me your grammar queries at any time. I always respond.

I’m a New Zealander living at Bondi Beach in Sydney. When I’m not writing or teaching, I enjoy walking the beach, looking at my garden (and thinking I should pull out some weeds) and reading.
