Imply and infer

Mary Morel

The difference between imply and infer

imply versus infer

imply

Imply means to suggest indirectly.

You implied you were coming.

infer

Infer means to deduce or come to a conclusion.

I inferred from what you said that you were coming.

I think distinction between these two words may be dying out.
